St. Peter’s by the Sea Presbyterian Church, Rancho Palos Verdes CA, will host a Cross Culture® forum on October 27 at 7:00 p.m. The speaker is Rev. Jimmie Hawkins, director of the PCUSA Office of Public Witness and the Presbyterian Ministry at the United Nations. His topic is “Advocating for Justice: Refugees, Immigration & Jesus.” This Cross Culture event is free with tickets available online.  https://bit.ly/SP-CC3.

Hawkins is a vocal and engaged advocate and expert on the subjects of refugees, immigration and effective advocacy. Approaching refugee and immigration issues globally and nationally from the perspective of the teachings of Jesus, he will both highlight the major problems and offer positive ways individuals and faith communities can help move our national dialog forward on these issues to bring about just and effective change. A veteran of several acts of civil disobedience, Hawkins is a leader in the Moral Monday Movement and the Poor People’s Campaign. His talk will be followed by Q & A. Light refreshments will be served afterwards.

Rev. Jimmie Hawkins, director of PCUSA Office of Public Witness and the Presbyterian Ministry at the United Nations, has served on the boards of The National Council of Churches, Union Presbyterian Seminary, National Religious Campaign against Torture, and Church World Service, a faith-based organization transforming communities around the globe through just and sustainable responses to hunger, poverty, displacement and disaster. He is the recipient of the 2024 Union Presbyterian Seminary Alumni of the Year award and the author of two books, Unbroken and Unbowed (2022) and The Shaping of Black Identities (2025), both published by Westminster John Knox Press.
