Westwood Presbyterian Church – Los Angeles, CA
15 hours a week – 2-year commitment with option for longer term
Westwood Presbyterian Church (WPC) is a warm, multigenerational congregation in the heart of Los Angeles, committed to nurturing faith, building relationships, and serving our neighbors with joy. We are seeking a part-time Director of Student Ministries to guide and inspire our middle and high school students as they grow in faith and community.
About the Role
The Director of Student Ministries leads, equips, and supports our youth (grades 6–12) and their families. This role combines relationship-building, program leadership, spiritual formation, and creative engagement.
We are seeking candidates who love working with students across a range of personalities, perspectives and learning styles; who care deeply about their faith development, but can be comfortable with uncomfortable questions; and who enjoy designing meaningful and fun opportunities for them to learn, grow, and serve.
Key Responsibilities
- Cast a vibrant vision for Student Ministries and build a welcoming, inclusive environment where everyone from ages 11 to 18 can feel known and valued.
- Plan and lead year-round programming, including ongoing project-based curriculums each Sunday, mid-week events, Bible study, retreats, mission/service projects, and seasonal activities.
- Cultivate strong relationships with youth and their families, offering support, pastoral presence and above all: ENERGY!
- Maintain an engaging social media and digital presence that supports communication with students and families.
- Coordinate with other ministry leaders within WPC, from our Children and Family Ministries Director to the College and Young Adult community, as well as connect with local churches, schools, and community organizations serving young people.
- Oversee administrative needs, including planning, communication, and budget management for Student Ministries.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or nearing completion; theological training (M.Div. or similar) and/or background in education is a plus (but not required).
- Experience working with middle and/or high school students, ideally in a church or ministry setting, demonstrating a commitment to energetic engagement that fosters connection and participation.
- Strong communication, organizational, and time-management skills with the ability to work independently and take initiative.
- Comfort with youth culture, social media, and creative program design.
- Warm, inclusive, and enthusiastic presence with students and adults alike.
Why Serve at WPC?
- A traditional one-hour liturgy with a progressive, inclusive message backed by a powerful music ministry.
- A spiritual center that’s soulful, cerebral and unafraid of conflict.
- A hybrid position with flexible working hours and zoom-able staff meetings led by a collaborative, caring staff team.
- A congregation committed to nurturing young people and supporting this ministry.
- Flexibility and creativity in shaping the program.
- Opportunities for ongoing professional development and pastoral mentorship.
