Music Coordinator Position, Knox Presbyterian Church

 Position Description

Purpose:

To develop in consultation with the pastor and Worship Committee, the music for Sunday morning worship in a way that is consistent with our mission, values, and theology.

Responsibilities:

  • Select and plan music (Anthem and Offertory, Prelude and Postlude, Communion) for Sunday Worship and music for special worship services (Ash Wednesday, and Christmas Eve).  
  • Coordinate musicians, music and rehearsal for the Higher Ground Band and the Gathering Music (Prelude) for each worship service. 
  • Recruit, equip, motivate, and rehearse choir members either for occasional or year-round choirs.
  • Lead the congregation in worship songs across a variety of church music styles, either solo or coordinating a music team.
  • Develop the rehearsal schedules of any special ensembles for services.
  • Maintain a strong prayer base for the music ministry.
  • Communicate faithfully with the Pastor and other staff involved with worship.
  • Participate in the life and worship ministry of the church.
  • Attending monthly staff meetings.

Qualifications:

  • Authentic relationship with Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord.
  • Ability to coordinate both volunteer  and paid musicians at Knox.
  • Attested musical skills and competence in the areas of contemporary, traditional, and classical church music.
  • Sense of humor and positive attitude.
  • Strong team player with the rest of the staff and congregation.
  • Commitment to the church’s vision, leadership, and people.
  • Dependable, responsible, self-motivated, and creative.

Musical Competencies:

  • Bachelor’s degree in music.
  • Minimum five years’ experience in church-related setting.
  • Ability in wide range of styles including Christian classics (hymns) but with a focus on contemporary music.
  • Professional quality keyboard skills. 
  • Composing, arranging, writing, and sequencing music.
  • Producing and directing special events and programs.
  • Experience with technical aspects of blended worship service.

Schedule and Salary 

  • Five to ten hours per week:  two hours of prep, three to four hours of rehearsal, two to three hours on Sunday morning (worship/more rehearsal).
  • Salary: $15,000-$20,000 annually, commensurate with experience and time commitment.
