Presbyterians Gather for Prayer and Worship as NRA Convention meets in Louisville

Presbyterians and other faith groups gathered on the steps of the Presbyterian Center in Louisville over the weekend as part of a series of activities to raise awareness about gun violence. 

The National Rifle Association (NRA) wrapped up its annual meeting in Louisville, Kentucky, this weekend just a few miles from the national offices of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). The conference, which included an appearance by Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, brought an estimated 75,000 people from across the country who attended seminars, auctions and talks by various speakers.

Meantime, the Presbyterian Mission Agency and Mid-Kentucky Presbytery, along with  interfaith, ecumenical and community groups, held a series of events on Saturday to draw attention to gun violence. The events included a march through portions of Louisville, a screening of a new documentary on gun violence, a gun melting demonstration and a gun violence witness event cosponsored by the Presbyterian Peacemaking Program, Presbyterian Disaster Assistance and Mid-Kentucky Presbytery.
