Title: Director for Contemporary Worship (Part-Time)
Purpose
: To provide dynamic and spiritually grounded musical and creative leadership for the 10:15 A.M. Sunday worship service, including collaborative leadership for 6 combined Traditional/Contemporary worship services per year.

Relationships
Supervised by the Pastor/Head of Staff
Collaborative partner with Director for Traditional Worship and Director for Digital
Ministries
Team member with all Program Staff
Leader of both volunteer and paid Virginia Road Band members

Inspiring and Motivating Others, as exampled by but not limited to…
…selecting theologically appropriate music each week that aligns with the sermon theme and liturgical calendar at least 3-4 weeks ahead
…overseeing visuals, such as lyric slides, background images, video elements, and seasonal themes and decor with Director of Digital Ministries
…leading musical worship every Sunday
…leading music for once a month Sunday Suppers
…creating a culture of community and spiritual engagement among volunteer and paid Virginia Road Band members

Planning and Organizing, as exampled by but not limited to…
…scheduling and leading volunteer and professional musicians for rehearsals and worship services at least 3-4 weeks ahead
…preparing band members ahead of rehearsals/worship by providing band charts and reference recordings, as well as backing tracks
…coordinating special services and events, such as Christmas Eve, Easter, Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, Community Night, Christmas Extravaganza, All Church Retreat
…submitting payroll on behalf of hired musicians 2x a month

Communication, as exampled by but not limited to…
…attending and contributing to a weekly worship planning meeting and
2-3x/yearly strategic planning meetings
…being proactive in meeting with Director of Digital Ministries and Director
of Traditional Worship
…balancing personal expertise with evolving congregational needs
…recruiting and gently equipping volunteer band members

Personal Qualifications/Requirements
A mature and growing Christian faith, aligning with the values and theology of the PC(USA) Strong musical proficiency and knowledge of music theory (vocals and proficiency on either piano or guitar is preferred.)
Demonstrated experience leading a band
Demonstrated experience leading worship in a congregational setting
Comfort and ease working in a collaborative staff environment
Knowledge of, and/or willingness to learn the software and tools required for the role, alongside having a proactive mindset for exploring new ones: Planning Center, ProPresenter, CCLI/Songselect, Loop
Community and backing tracks

Hours: Part-time—20 hours/week
$40,000/yr minimum starting pay
