Cross Culture Forum Hosted by St. Peter’s by the Sea Presbyterian Church

St. Peter’s by the Sea Presbyterian Church is hosting an inaugural forum at their sanctuary on February 19, 2024 at 7:00p.m. The event is called Cross Culture™ – Conversations on complex issues that matter. The featured discussion leader is Knox Thames, former StateDepartment Special Advisor for Religious Minorities in the Near East &South/Central Asia during the Obama and Trump administrations. The featured topic is the impact of freedom of religion and conscience toward world peace and global human rights.

This Cross Culture conversation will be a fireside chat followed by live Q&A. Participants will come away with a deeper understanding of the complex roles belief and unbelief play in international conflicts, repression of human rights, and international peace. More importantly, Thames will offer positive recommendations for ways governments, individuals and faith communities can help move the world forward in this urgent undertaking. From Ukraine toPakistan, from Iraq to Sri Lanka, from the Holy Land, Russia, China, and Iran to cite a few, the challenges of faith and belief underlie repression, disfunction and conflict. Even within the US, there are clear examples where belief differences are at the heart of urgent political and social conflicts. As Thames observes: “The world is increasingly on fire, with millions suffering for their beliefs, so we must be ready to redouble our efforts in2024 to defend freedom of conscience, religion or belief for all.”

This is for all church leaders and members of all faiths throughout Southern California such as local adults, and college and high school students interested in the impact of freedom of religious belief toward world peace and human rights in the long run. It will provide an opportunity to gain insight from a leading expert on the subject of freedom of religion and belief.
